Teen Contest 2010

Who can participate?

The NDTeenDrivers Traffic Safety Contest 2010 is open to students enrolled in a North Dakota school ages 14 to 19 years old. Participants must be 14 years old by the last day to submit the Registration Form, which is Friday, February 11, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. CST. Students can participate individually or in a group, no larger than five students; however, if working in a group all students must attend the same school.

If you are working in a group, the assistance of teachers, Community Traffic Safety Program Administrators, or parents that help in the process will not count towards your maximum of five participants.


Tell me about the contest!

The NDTeenDrivers Traffic Safety Contest is a statewide contest to promote traffic safety!

Student(s) will be required to develop a unique and original safety campaign slogan and submit a 30 second Video or Billboard design, individually or in a group no larger than 5 students, focusing on one of the topics listed below:

  • Distracted Driving
  • Underage Drinking and Driving
  • Seatbelt Use

In addition to the Video or Billboard, each entry is required to hold one traffic safety event at their school or school function.


What is required of a “traffic safety event?"

In addition to creating the Video or Billboard, a traffic safety event must be held at your school or at a school function within the contest time frame (Monday, November 1, 2010 to Monday, March 28, 2011 by 5:00 p.m. CST). Entries from a Class A school are required to have a minimum attendance of 50 people present at their traffic safety event. Entries from a Class B school are required to have a minimum attendance of 20 people present at their traffic safety event.

How do I sign up?

  • Each individual (working independently or in a group) must completely fill out the Registration Form by 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, February 11, 2011 and email to [email protected] or mail to North Dakota Department of Transportation, “NDTeenDrivers Traffic Safety Contest 2010”, Attn: Ashlee Link, 608 East Boulevard Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58505.
  • The Registration Form can be found on www.NDTeenDrivers.com beginning Monday, November 1, 2010.
  • Participants are required to have their school Principal sign the Registration Form, as your school has the opportunity to win a $1,000 Traffic Safety Grant if your campaign wins. With this Traffic Safety Grant, the school will be required to conduct a safety event by December 31, 2011 and submit a two-page typed report about the event, along with a minimum of two photos from the traffic safety event conducted with this grant.
  • Participants will also be required to have their parent/guardian sign the Registration Form, acknowledging the contestant could win a cash prize if they place in the top three places for the Video or Billboard.

What prizes can I win?

30 second Video Campaign
  • 1st place: $1,000 cash total for group or individual and $1,000 Traffic Safety Grant for your school*
  • 2nd place: $750 cash total for group or individual
  • 3rd place: $500 cash total for group or individual

Billboard Design Campaign
  • 1st place: $750 cash total for group or individual and $1,000 Traffic Safety Grant for your school*
  • 2nd place: $500 cash total for group or individual
  • 3rd place: $250 cash total for group or individual

*With the Traffic Safety Grant, the school Principal will be required to conduct a traffic safety event by December 31, 2011 and submit a two-page typed report about the safety event. A minimum of two photos from the safety event conducted with this grant are required as well.

How are the winners determined?

Entries for the Video and Billboard campaigns will be judged by the public and a contest committee.

Judging

  • Video and Billboard campaigns will be judged by the public and by a contest committee.
  • The contest committee will judge on the below:
    50% - Persuasive, creativity, informational, accuracy of information
    25% - Script, coherence, visual design
    25% - Public votes for the Videos and Billboards
    - Completion of one traffic safety event at school with one page report/photos

Public Voting

  • The contest committee will announce the Top 10 Finalists for the Video and Top 10 Finalists for the Billboard on www.NDTeenDrivers.com on Monday, April 11, 2011.
  • The public can begin voting for their favorite in each campaign Monday, April 11, 2011 and will end Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. CST.

Winner Notification

  • Winners will be announced Wednesday, May 11, 2011 on www.NDTeenDrivers.com.
  • Winners will be notified by phone or email according to the information listed on the registration forms submitted.

How do I or my group submit our entry?

A complete contest entry must contain the following:

  • Each individual (working independently or in a group) must include a copy of their completed Registration Form
  • DVD with 30 second Video and typed script of the Video or CD with Billboard design in jpeg and pdf files and include a full-color print out of Billboard design
  • Sources for all data/information used in campaign must be submitted.
  • One page typed report on traffic safety event at school with a minimum of two photos
  • Mail to:
